A small clip of the finished manuscript

It takes a lot of energy to focus a damaged brain on moving one muscle in your arm or leg. I never realized how much we take for granted as adults. It’s easier now to understand why toddlers get frustrated with a simple task when you become a 24 year old toddler. I wanted to get up out of my wheelchair and run just to prove to the world that I wasn’t handicapped. I was 24, a college graduate and I wasn’t retarded! However, focusing so hard just to move my ankle, and not succeeding, puts a slight damper on the running down the hospital hallway plan.

Speech Therapy was pretty easy. My speech had only been slightly affected by the stroke. I had trouble saying words with an R followed by an L like world or girl. My ST did lots of memory games with me to see if my memory had been affected and luckily it wasn’t affected at all. Other than not having full control of my left side I felt pretty normal.

Let me share some of my story

I got married the first time in 8/2000 to a not so great guy. I had a stroke 10 months later which was one month before my 25 birthday. After two months in the hospital I went home to a world of abuse. Eight months later I found the strength to kick him to the curb. I went on then to find the love of my life and re-marry. We had a beautiful little girl eight months after we married. Life is good. In August of this year we moved to Arizona and I love it here. Life is good and now I want to spread the word about stroke.

First time writting a book

I have just started writting my very first book. This book is non fiction and is my story of survival. I survived a stroke at 24 and an abusive alcoholic husband and have gone on to re-marry, have a child and host a benefit for stroke survivors in denver CO. I was told by a friend to start a blog about it so here I am.
