A small clip of the finished manuscript

It takes a lot of energy to focus a damaged brain on moving one muscle in your arm or leg. I never realized how much we take for granted as adults. It’s easier now to understand why toddlers get frustrated with a simple task when you become a 24 year old toddler. I wanted to get up out of my wheelchair and run just to prove to the world that I wasn’t handicapped. I was 24, a college graduate and I wasn’t retarded! However, focusing so hard just to move my ankle, and not succeeding, puts a slight damper on the running down the hospital hallway plan.

Speech Therapy was pretty easy. My speech had only been slightly affected by the stroke. I had trouble saying words with an R followed by an L like world or girl. My ST did lots of memory games with me to see if my memory had been affected and luckily it wasn’t affected at all. Other than not having full control of my left side I felt pretty normal.
